Judge Mfanelo Mbenenge;
Judge President of the Eastern Cape

Selby Mfanelo Mbenenge practised as an advocate for 22 years, 11 of which were as Senior Counsel, before being appointed High Court Judge in July 2015. In November 2017 he became the Judge President of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court. He has referred to his appointment as Judge President as descending to servant-hood, rather than an elevation to a higher position.

He is married and blessed with 3 children, 2 of whom have followed in his footsteps by choosing the legal profession for themselves. He is a staunch Christian whose life is greatly influenced by his religious convictions – a trait that always manifests itself in his dealings with others. His motto has always been “I shall pass through this world but once, if there is any good thing that I must do let me do it now.” He is always willing to serve others whenever called upon to do so, and a teacher who is always willing and ready to impart knowledge to others.
